Date(s) - December 6, 2022
7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Greater Cleveland Congregations will hold an important criminal justice Action, and we hope you can attend.
WHAT: “Justice for our Children”, A GCC Action on Discretionary Juvenile Bindover
WHEN: Tuesday, December 6, 7-8:30 pm
WHERE: Olivet Institutional Baptist Church (8712 Quincy Ave., Cleveland 44106) or via ZOOM
This meeting will be a public hearing to end abuse of discretionary juvenile bindover. Discretionary bindover of youth occurs when a juvenile court judge, at the county prosecutor’s recommendation, binds over a youth to adult court for trial, and, if convicted, prison. Bindover has serious negative consequences for convicted youth and the community. Cuyahoga County binds over many more youth than other urban communities, and over 90% of these youth are Black or Brown.
A strong turnout at the Action is crucial to show our strength and base throughout Cuyahoga County – to show County officials why they should pay attention to GCC. It is also an opportunity to express our UU values.
UUCC has committed to have at least 30 people attend, either in person at Olivet (carpooling available) or via ZOOM. Please come to the GCC Table at coffee hour on Sunday (11/20, 11/27, and 12/4) for more information and to sign up. You can register for the meeting, either by using the link below or by using the QR code shown in the flier below (you must register to attend).
