On April 12 at 7 PM the UUCC Sunday Book Group will convene by Zoom to discuss A Woman of no Importance: The Untold Story of the American Spy Who Helped Win World War II by Sonia Purnell. Based on new and extensive research, Purnell uncovers the full secret life of Virginia Hall, a Baltimore socialite who talked her way into Winston Churchill’s “Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare,” became the first Allied woman deployed behind enemy lines and – despite her prosthetic leg – helped to light the flame of the French Resistance. Despite being featured on Gestapo wanted posters, she refused orders to evacuate, escaped over the Pyrenees into Spain, then returned to France after D-Day to lead a victorious guerilla campaign.
