UU Ministry for the Earth Update March 2021

Tips for a Healthy Planet

Cleveland Clinic recommends this website to check if your household cleaners are safe for the home environment and find non-toxic alternatives:  www.ewg.org/guides/cleaners

There are some surprises; one popular plant based cleaner was rated ‘D’.

Best Buy recycles many, though not all, electronics and electrical appliances. Some recycling is free and some has a charge.  For details see bestbuy.com/recycles

The Solid Waste District will have a TV collection event March 13 and October 30.  For more information or to register, see: www.cuyahogarecycles.org/Televisions

Upcycle Parts Shop gives materials a new life for crafting.  They are located at 6419 St. Clair Avenue.  See www.upcyclepartsshop.org  Due to COVID, the shop is open by reservation for shopping or donations.  They can take up to 3 boxes of donations per visit.  Their website has a list of materials they can use; click on Donate/Donate Materials for a link to the list. They have cut down on workshops due to COVID, but when these resume they are a good resource for learning to repurpose materials.  For example, they led a group to make lovely flowers from pop bottles, wire, and paint.

Are you interested in joining a group that works on projects to help the environment?  The Unitarian Universalist Ministry for the Earth (UUMFE) meets the second Sunday of every month after church and coffee hour on Zoom.  Contact Pam Schenk (pamelajschenk@gmail.com) if you would like to attend.
