UU Ministry for the Earth Update May 2021

Tips for a Healthy Planet

The San Francisco Department of the Environment has a great pdf (link here) on alternatives to typical cleaning products, and you may already have the ingredients. These cleaners are better for your health, less expensive, and safer for the environment.

As you may know, a more plant-based diet is good for your health and better for the environment. Livestock production is the largest source of some climate-warming gases, especially from cattle. Just having one meatless meal a week makes a big difference. If everyone in the U.S. stopped eating meat for just one day a week for one year, it would be like taking 7.6 million cars off the road! There are many cookbooks with plant-based recipes that will please meat-eaters and non-meat eaters alike. Molly Katzen has good recipes in her Moosewood cookbooks. This recipe uses quinoa, a grain that is a complete protein.

Are you interested in joining a group that works on projects to help the environment? The Unitarian Universalist Ministry for the Earth (UUMFE) meets the second Sunday of every month after church and coffee hour on Zoom. Contact Pam Schenk (pamelajschenk@gmail.com) if you would like to attend.
