SUMMARY:Porch Talks For A Beloved Community Returns August 12\, 2023!
DESCRIPTION:Mark your calendar and plan to join us on the lawn of East View UCC\, 17300 Van Aken Blvd. for our annual Porch Talk! This event is co-sponsored by Heights Christian Church\, East View UCC\, and Plymouth UCC. This year’s event will be at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday\, August 12\, at the site where the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr. spoke from the porch 58 years ago. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Rev. Dr. Marvin McMickle\, who spoke during the first Porch Talks season in 2019\, returns as this year’s speaker. The title of his talk is “No Room in the Inn\, Part 2.” Music will be a combined choir\, with members of all 3 sponsoring congregations. \n\n\n\nThe event is free and open to the public\, and will be held outdoors (unless inclement weather requires a move inside). You are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket. A reception with light refreshments will follow the program. \n\n\n\nThe Porch Talks series provides a continued call to work toward the “Beloved Community” that Dr. King envisioned\, where all forms of discrimination\, bigotry\, and prejudice will be replaced by an all-inclusive spirit of sisterhood and brotherhood.

DESCRIPTION:Climate Change is real and huge\, and it’s also very local. Join us on Monday\, August 21 from 6-9 in Fellowship Hall for “Climate Fresk\,” a fun and informative workshop on climate change focused on the Northeast Ohio. Pizza will be served.  Adults and high school students welcome.  Space is limited so register soon. \n\n\n\nThe Northeast Ohio Climate Fresk is a workshop that provides quality climate education in an interactive\, game-style format\, followed by group discussion and reflection\, current regional climate plan information\, and additional engagement opportunities.  The goals are to teach attendees the fundamental science behind climate change\, empower them to take action\, and learn about the Northeast Ohio Climate Action plan process and engagement opportunities.
