General Assembly Delegate Voting and More 2025

As your delegate to General Assembly this week, I will be voting on a number of items. If these are of interest to you, please email me ASAP to give me your thoughts!  Or let me know when I can call you.

First, here’s one general information piece (no voting here!)

“Meet The Moment” is more than the GA theme — it’s a framework for Unitarian Universalists to engage in big-picture conversations about how we can harness our courage, grow our skills, and ground in our values to show up most impactfully in these unprecedented times. No matter what issue we are addressing, the Meet the Moment framework begins with three grounding questions:  * What is the moment we are in? * What are the most urgent needs and important opportunities of this moment?  * How do our UU values call us to respond to this moment?  When used in a process of collective discernment, these questions can move a group faithfully towards a plan for action, grounded in our UU values. How have you witnessed Unitarian Universalism meet the moment in your congregation or context?

Now, on to issues for voting:

Congregational Study/Action Issues (CSAIs) are issues selected by Unitarian Universalist member congregations for three years of study, reflection and action. There have been no CSAIs in the past few years, and the cycle for proposals began again in the Fall of 2024 resulting in three proposals.

Share your feedback and thoughts about the proposals on discuss.uua.org. A discussion of the CSAIs will occur during Thursday’s General Session and voted on afterwards. If no CSAI receives a majority of the vote, a second vote between the top two proposals will be conducted on Friday.

AIW Ballot Results

Note: Delegates had to vote for up to 3 AIW’s by last Monday to determine which 3 will show up on the General Assembly Agenda.  The top 3 below will be voted on in Session IV on Saturday.

854 (30.3%) – We Declare and Affirm: Immigrants Are People Who Have Inherent Worth and Inalienable Rights

762 (27.1%) – Faithful Defiance of Authoritarianism, a Call to Action: Reaffirming Our Covenants for Democracy and Freedom!

587 (20.9%) – Defending LGBTIQ Freedom Amid Funding Crisis: A Call for Global Solidarity

352 (12.5%) – Voter Justice, Racial Equity, and Local Autonomy = DC Home Rule and Statehood for the Citizens of the Nation’s Capital

259 (9.2%) – Bringing a Feminist and Womanist Lens to Resistance and Activism

Full results can be found on uua.simplyvoting.com.

What are Actions of Immediate Witness (AIW)? They express the conscience and carry the authority of the delegates at the GA at which it is passed. AIWs are initiated by individual delegates and move through their entire creation and adoption process during a single GA.

Next: The 3 AIWs with the most votes will be introduced during General Session II and delegates will vote to admit them to the agenda. During General Session IV delegates will then vote to affirm the AIWs that were admitted.

I am also tasked with voting for who will be moderator/co-moderators for the next 6 years. You’ve received their bios in your UU World, and can access them on the UUA website. I think we can’t go wrong with either choice. I will listen to the forum on the candidates, and then decide. The vote is on or before Saturday 9am.

There are a variety of other items- (if applicable) Votes to Adopt Responsive Resolutions, Budget Motions, and Bylaw Amendment, as well as other positions on the Board, Nominating, and more.

Thanks for your interest and reading this far!  I know it’s a lot.  The CSAI, as well as the AIW’s will have recommended actions for the UUA, Congregations, and Individuals, which may help you help me in deciding.

Happy reading!
