Sunday Morning Connecting After Worship

Worship is where we forge our community together by creating sacred space and experiencing our interdependence.

After worship, coffee and tea is served in the Fellowship Hall at 11:15. Everyone can bio-break, get a drink, and get settled by 11:30 when we are all invited to connect and spend time in that community we’ve helped create in small groups, classes, and other kinds of connection.

Youth Religious Education (YRE)

Sunday morning YRE is is what glues our youth together with one another in their classes.

Our youngest (K-3) gather in a Montessori-inspired time called “Spirit Play” where stories build foundations for spirituality and a moral imagination.

Our older elementary youth (4-6) are in classes that address the foundations of UU identity and values (principles, sources of inspiration and a spirit of social justice.)

Middle and High School join together in youth group where topics of discussion, spiritually-enriching conversations and some play and hanging out invite us all to build meaningful community together!

Another important YRE experience happens apart from Sunday morning: the Coming of Age rite of passage for young teens. This is analogous to a bar mitzvah or a confirmation, and it usually takes place during their 8th grade year. “Coming of Age” invites youth into an intensive, year-long process of learning and expression. Youth conclude by leading their own service and reading out their own “Credo,” or statement of personal belief. As those students bridge into High School, they take the lead in a collaborative group of peers to focus and lead their own program as fully-fledged UUs.

Adult Religious Education (ARE)

Learning is a lifelong project. At UUCC, we try to offer a range of courses that cycle around the interests and needs of our engaged and curious congregation. We have courses about justice issues, spirituality and pop culture, UU history and traditions, musical spirituality, HBO’s The Wire––a whole range of classes, discussions and ways to engage!

Sunday morning invites conversation about the themes and ideas in the morning’s worship in “Soul Matters Conversations.” These take place in the library during coffee hour. These are lightly facilitated by volunteers who have prepared some discussion questions before the gathering. If you are interested in reach out to Dr. Allan Georgia for details and signing up.
