Zelle is our new direct payment method for Sunday Plate contributions!
Zelle is our new, preferred, direct payment method for the Sunday Plate contributions, replacing CashApp.
We are asking all who have been using CashApp to change to using Zelle. If you already have Zelle set up please send your payments to donate@uucleveland.org. Use the memo line to indicate if the payment is for the plate on a given date, your pledge, or some other reason.
If Zelle is new to you go to https://www.zelle.com/get-started. There you will find instructions for getting your account set up. Note: Zelle is not an app, after following the instructions you will be taken to your online banking app (Key, PNC, Huntington …) to fully set up your account. Once set up you use Zelle directly through your Bank App, sending your payment to donate@uucleveland.org. Use the memo line to indicate if the payment is for the plate on a given date, your pledge, or some other reason.
Can I move to using PayPal instead? No. We are eliminating PayPal and have been working directly with members who use it to adopt a different method
Why are we doing this?
First, there are no fees with Zelle. We pay CashApp and PayPal fees of 2.75-10% on your contributions – in just over two months that’s amounted to $150. Over the course of the year we expect fees to push $1,000 – we have better places to spend that money.
Second, Zelle is through banks and not third parties. It’s safer – yours and our funds are protected by our banks.
Last, funds are transferred directly to us, and not held by the outside provider. CashApp has been problematic in making changes without warning which have caused us not to be able to transfer your donations to our bank account for weeks at a time, while being unresponsive to our requests for assistance.
