Becky Burns – Testimonial

My name is Becky Burns. In 2018 I decided it was time to move from Memphis, TN to Shaker Heights to be close to my family. Although I grew up in the Methodist Church (my dad was a Methodist minister), I knew that I wanted to become a member of UUCC.

Being an involved mom, mother-in -law and Grandma is my top priority but I also want to be just Becky. One of the first things I did was to join groups in the congregation –  a whole bunch of groups. This has been a wonderful way for me to meet people and become settled and involved in this community.

When the Building Our Tomorrows Capital Campaign first started, I thought it was great!  I attended the architect’s presentation, attended a Focus Group and read lots of emails in the past months that explained everything about this campaign. My first thought was that the people were important to me and not so much the building. But the more I read and learned about this Campaign the more I realized that having a safe, accessible, up to date building was very important for all of us as well as having spaces that are open and comfortable to gather.

Now I am a member of the Capital Campaign Steering Committee and am very pleased to be a part of this process. I was visited by another member of the steering committee to discuss lots of information about the campaign. The visit was actually very interesting and fun. I had already thought long and hard about my pledge amount so was ready to fill out the pledge card during the visit.

The Steering Committee will be contacting members to visit during the next few months. I have already visited a few friends to share information with them and will be choosing more. So when a friend calls who’s chosen to visit you….please say YES!
