Join Our Facility Emergency & Safety Committee

Dear Congregants and Friends,

In alignment with our Unitarian Universalist values—particularly our shared commitment to interdependence and mutual care, we are forming a Facility Emergency & Safety Committee.

Our physical space is a sanctuary where we gather, learn, and grow together. To ensure our shared spaces remain a welcoming, secure, and well-prepared environment for everyone, this team will focus on operational facility safety and emergency preparedness.

What We Will Do

Emergency Operations & Response: Developing clear protocols for facility emergencies, severe weather events, power outages, and bad weather closures.

Facility Preparedness & Checklists: Routine walk throughs to review egress paths, fire safety, kitchen and stairway conditions, and exterior hazard assessments.

Local Coordination: Liaising with local municipal resources, such as fire and emergency services or facility risk representatives, to keep our physical structures safe.

We welcome anyone passionate about caring for our shared space, but your guidance in any of these areas would be particularly helpful:

General knowledge of building systems, maintenance, or property management.

Background in risk assessment, safety coordination, or drafting operational procedures.

Strong skills in organizing procedures and communicating operational updates (like weather closures) clearly to the broader congregation.

If you feel called to serve our community in this practical, essential way, please reach out to Janine Purcell at jpurcell.kindness@gmail.com by Sunday, October 25.

In shared care and community,

The Board of Trustees
