I’m Laurie Albright. My husband Brian Larson and I have been coming here since the mid-80’s, initially along with our young sons. As we’ve engaged with the congregation, I’ve grown to love this congregation as a whole AND the individual people! You’ve helped us raise our sons, offered meaningful fellowship, especially in times of need, offered leadership experiences, and entrees into community justice work that gives me purpose and fulfillment. Worship that supports me in nurturing my “better self” each week. A “one stop shop” for all that makes life worth living!
I agreed to become Co-Chair of this Capital Campaign out of gratitude for all of this. It is my hope that, together, we can marshal our resources to create a more wonderful, accessible, sustainable, technology friendly, and welcoming congregational home .
I invite you to think about a stretch goal- this is our opportunity to make our community stronger now, AND into the future. With THIS capital campaign, it is now our turn to be generous, just as we are living on the generosity of those who built this building before us.
When you accept a visit from a fellow congregant, you will receive your own copy of the viewbook and will be invited to ask your questions and share your opinion of this $6 million current concept prior to architecture plans being drawn.
Not only does this provide a personal opportunity explore the project, we get to connect around a common purpose. I have experience shared joy after meeting with households, when they identify for themselves what they’d like to contribute over 3 years, and we meet again with excitement, as we celebrate their satisfaction, saying, I took another look at my resources, or I talked with my bank, and “I can do it! I can give what feels good to me!”
Of course each household’s situation is different, and some are not in a position to contribute as much as they might otherwise like. That’s the beauty of checking in with each member of the community: It doesn’t require us to do more than we can. But it does require us to do what we can.
If each of us stretch and contribute what we can, we will be successful in creating more strength, excitement, accessibility, comfort, collaboration, and challenge in our congregation for us now, and for future UUs. PLEASE say Yes!
