First Church, and now UUCC, have been the touchstone of my life since we arrived in the Cleveland area over 40 years ago. We discovered UUism and the congregation when we moved in a couple of doors down from the church and it almost immediately became a church home for us and our two young daughters, as well as the place we made the close friends who have become part of our extended family. It has been the place where I could explore my spirituality and activism, where I could make intergenerational friendships, and where I have enjoyed music, learning and fellowship.
So, it’s not a stretch to want to participate in the first capital campaign since we arrived to help this congregation remain vital for now and into the future. We have been gifted over 70 years of the generosity of those who built the building in 1954, and it’s now our turn to step up.
The campaign is all about relationships—I enjoyed the meeting we had with our caller, and I’ve enjoyed meeting with those I chose to call on so far. While it’s important that you “think big” in terms of what you think you can contribute, it’s more important that you welcome your caller, hear the whole story, and then make your decision about what is right for you to give.
So, say YES when someone calls to schedule a meeting time, consider what UUCC means to you and our collective future, and be part of the exciting planning and building that is ahead.
