What do you do if you and your spouse have different religious backgrounds and you want to find a suitable religious home for your young children? Well, my husband suggested we check out the UU church on Shaker Blvd. and I’ve now been coming to this house of worship for over 35 years. My name is Terry Robbins and I’ve served as a Sunday school teacher, on numerous Committees, in the kitchen, on Search Committees and as a Board member during that time.
I didn’t know anything about UUism when we visited–this was before the internet–and I was pleasantly surprised to feel ‘at home’ the first time I attended a Sunday service. This community opened my eyes and mind to a more expansive way of viewing spirituality and the interconnectedness of our world. I’ve embraced the journey of answering the question, ‘What’s the meaning of life?” (Don’t ask me, I’m still refining my thoughts!) Having this community of open-minded thinkers who value many of the same things I do has shaped me as a person and inspires me to live my life fully. That foundational support was particularly useful after the unexpected death of my husband when my two sons were teenagers. This community has supported me in so many ways, and that’s why I’m pleased to make such a significant pledge to the Building Our Tomorrows campaign. I want a vibrant UUCC community to be here in the future so that others may have the opportunity to find what I value here. Please say YES to a visit and consider making a ‘stretch’ pledge in honor of what this congregation has meant to you.
