TWO Opportunities to Support FDR Partners!

First some background information on FDR Partners. UUCC has an important relationship with FDR Academy, a PreK-8th Grade school in Cleveland’s Glenville neighborhood. This partnership began about 6 years ago, with the goal of supporting the success of FDR students through various volunteer efforts by our congregation. In past years these have included tutoring, donating needed items like warm clothing, helping students write their yearbook, and some financial aid for needs like school uniforms and scholarships for the 8th grade DC fieldtrip. The support offered by UUCC has varied from year to year, based on school requests and COVID challenges.

This year, UUCC is supporting FDR in TWO important ways:

Attendance Incentive Program: Hopefully you are already aware of our participation in FDR’s attendance incentive program. The goal is to encourage the return of school attendance to pre-pandemic levels, through an 8-week incentive program in April and May, rewarding the grade with the highest weekly attendance. UUCC’s role is to provide the reward – goodie bags for the winning students. As of Week 5, we are delighted to see that the winning grades are at/near the target goal, and excited to be recognized.

We are decorating and filling these bags each at coffee hour each Sunday through 5/21 (not 5/14, due to Church breakfast meeting), and then delivering them to FDR. Please join us – help make a difference and have some fun!

Come to FDR’s Disney Musical, May 20, 2 pm: This is the fourth year that FDR has been selected for a prestigious grant to perform a Disney musical, with assistance from Playhouse Square. Some of you may remember the fun in previous years of painting parties, making costumes and props, and attending performances at FDR. We know how participation in the arts can be a transformative experience, and we’re glad to participate.

This year FDR is performing Disney’s “Aristocrats”. UUCC support this year includes some hands-on and financial help with snacks, scenery/ costumes, providing a videographer, and a cake for the cast party. Special recognition is due to our own Becky Burns, who has been serving most ably and tirelessly since last fall as the Volunteer Music Director!

How else can you help? Come to the show!
