Volunteers are the heart of Urban Hope, the soup kitchen for which UUCC serves the 4th Sunday of every month. Once a quarter, one family donates their time, energy and resources in preparing a gourmet meal that the guests love. Many thanks to Michael Lau, Laura Householder and Jordan Lau for their continued commitment to this social justice project. To give you an idea, this month’s menu included fried chicken thigh sandwich, redskin potato salad, ratatouille and banana bread pudding. Dinner was a hit!! Other times, the dinner menu is put together in different ways. Sometimes, a group cooks in the UUCC kitchen. Or we might buy a prepared frozen casserole and sides. Congregants often donate cookies and fruit. The servers usually carpool to the storefront at 4241 Lorain Ave (not far from the West Side Market). There, our volunteers serve dinner to some 50 hungry neighbors. This month, we thank Felisa Anthony, Eve Bendezu and Jean Ellsworth-Wolk for their energy in making this happen.
