Film & Discussion: We Grew Up: Kids in Adult Prison
November 15 @ 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm
Join us for a film and discussion as a part of our Reel Justice, Real Values Adult Religious Education/ and Exploration (ARE) program at UUCC. Light lunch provided.
About the film:
We Grew Up: Kids in Adult Prisons is a documentary co-produced by Leah Winsberg and UUCC’s own, John Bacon, for the Children’s Law Center. The film centers the voices of those who lived that reality, giving them space to share—in their own words—what it meant to enter the adult system as children, grow up behind bars, and carry those experiences forward.
You are invited to a special opportunity to experience the documentary’s screening and join a deeper conversation about young people, justice, and the systems that shape their lives. Leah Winsberg, the film’s co-director/producer, will be there to lead the panel discussion. She will be joined by one of the interviewees, Taz Taylor.
Since its release, We Grew Up: Kids in Adult Prisons has been selected for multiple film festivals, including the Chain NYC Film Festival, Greater Cleveland Urban Film Festival, Documentaries Without Borders International Film Festival, Vegas Indie Film Festival, and Marina del Rey Film Festival.
