About the UUCC Annual Auction

Why Participate in the Auction?

The Annual Auction is important to the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Cleveland for many reasons, including:

  • Communal Gathering: The Auction event itself is an intergenerational event with great food, time to hang out with your friends from UUCC, and lots of items to bid on or buy.
  • Community Building: Many people donate social or learning events as auction items and you can bid on or buy entry to events that take place over the remainder of this congregation year.
  • Funding Our Congregation: Did you know that the Auction is listed in the UUCC Annual Budget as a significant source of income that supports our programs and operations? This year the amount we hope to raise is $10,000.

Category Explanations

Silent Auction

Silent Auction sheets will be posted along the hallway and partition in Fellowship Hall one week before the auction. Write your bid on the list. Your bid must raise the prior bid by the “minimum raise” amount noted.* (See next paragraph.) Highest bid(s) win!

*In the case of multiple offerings of one item, a bid raise may not be necessary. For example, if a service is offered to the 3 highest bidders, bidders 2 & 3 can bid the same amount as bidder 1, however, the 4th bidder must raise the bid (thereby knocking bidder 3 off the list, because bidders 1 & 2 got there first.) Sound complicated? When in doubt, just raise the bid! Auction Committee members will be available for questions, and will scrutinize the bid sheets for fairness.

Reservation Table

The Reservation Table is for fixed-priced events. Sign-up lists for these activities will be set out on tables in Fellowship Hall. Sign-up is on a first-come, first-served basis. Write your name and bidder number on the list to reserve a place for yourself! These items or events are open to everyone until the limit is reached. The table will open 15 minutes after the auction begins.

Bid & Bump Boards

The Bid & Bump board is located near the stage end of Fellowship Hall. The board gives a visual presentation of the size limit of the event. A higher bid “bumps” the lowest bid off the board. Many good dinners are found on these boards. Bid & Bump will run until an announcement is made to close it.

Take-Away

Take-Away items are available for a fixed price and are available for you to take home immediately. For Take-Away items please stop at the take-away table before you leave to pick up your items and we will check off that you have received them.

How Bidding Works

Please BID GENEROUSLY! This is a key fundraiser that benefits all of us! Not only are you buying items, services, food, getaways and gatherings at very fair prices, your dollars go directly to the church.

For those unable to attend the Auction, you may want to find yourself a “proxy” bidder. Instruct your bidder as to the items you would like, and how high you would be willing to bid. Any corrections, additions or cancellations will be posted Auction Day.

After the Auction. . . .

You will be able to pay for your items before leaving the auction.

For donors, a listing of what you donated and who bought the items will also be available on the12th or 19th, and will be mailed if not picked up. And again, thank you for your donations!
