Amy Glesius

Co-Chair, Board of Trustees (July 2023-June 2024)

Term 2020-23

A native Clevelander and lifelong seeker of wisdom, I initially came to First Unitarian in 2013 looking for a community to help with the spiritual upbringing of my children. My spouse, Roger, and I were married in the UU tradition but did so in Canada and were not part of a congregation. Our four young kids were enrolled in a Jewish school and taking Jewish Studies. Naturally, the time came when our oldest asked, “I know we’re not Jewish, but what ARE we?” We knew that we wouldn’t be able to answer that question alone; the rest is history.

Chances are you have heard us making a valiant effort to corral our kids, Stella (13), Seamus (10), Phoebe (10), and Sophia (10), from the balcony at some point. Although I’ve spent plenty of time in the RE wing teaching Spirit Play, helping out with YRE and coordinating the Chalice Lighters, I do get out. You’ll always catch me at my favorite services, Garden Festival and the Blessing of the Animals. I’ve enjoyed my time in small group ministry like the We are Family and Pagan 101 covenant groups, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and Beloved Conversations. Some of my other service includes participating in the DRE search that netted Allan Georgia and the stewardship committee.  I sat on the committee that first explored the merger of our parent congregations, as well as the Negotiating Committee that laid out the map for our future. I’m particularly excited about our blossoming partnership with Urban Hope. I look forward to learning more about each of you.
