Food for Our Minds and Spirits: New Patterns for Public Confrontation

Videos pervade the internet that are focused on moments of public outburst, embarrassing personal moments, and various kinds of injustice. It has become part of our cancel culture, our police violence protests, and our enforcement of public norms. Usually an older person is involved who is either making an assumption about some younger kids in a cliche of “get off my law” You can find oodles of videos with that format. They fill the web and appeal to our basest instincts to see dysfunction and conflict.

And that’s why this OTHER video was so compelling. Because it wasn’t negative at all –it was a very very different thing altogether. You should watch this interchange between a woman and some skate-borders in her neighborhood. The exchange is neighborly, filled with kindness and affirmation–it short, it is a beautiful and unexpected exchange that, one would hope, can model a new way forward for how to be together in public.

Watch the video here if you need a smile!
