Food for our Minds and Spirits: Virtual Ocean

Sometimes it is hard to tap into our spiritual selves or find time to nurture our intellectual curiosity. Here is a section that reflects on some nourishing materials from around the web and related media channels in order to get us thinking, get us feeling, and get us reflecting on the lives we are living in this big, beautiful world. **Some Adult/Mature Themes May Appear in Links and Other Attached Material**

Virtual Ocean

Sometimes the world out there is just too far away, and I’m always amazed at how the internet facilitates travel and experiences from around the world. I’ve shared perspectives from windows across the globe, and the view of driving and listening to the radio in different world cities. But sometimes urban spaces are too noisy or too crowded even for our digital fantasies.

So, at least two things on the internet can bring the wider world to your screen and I’ve found them to be a fantastic way to touch base with nature when I can’t get away in the more meaningful way I’d like to. The first is auditory called Virtocean. You can hear the rhythms of the ocean at any speed or volume you like –– the kind of thing you can bring with you even while you are working away.

The other is a piece of my hometown –– the city where my family lives in Florida has a dock that include an underwater webcam called LIVE Deerfield Beach, FL USA Underwater Camera. It is a pretty amazing thing to see, because it broadcasts day after day with all the randomness of the ocean, fish of all kinds, the occasional sea turtle. It’s beautiful. A distant reminder of how very special and intricate and different the world can be.

The internet can be an agent of chaos. An agent of frustration. An agent of distraction. But just occasionally it can be a doorway into the world, and that is something worth appreciating.
