Highlights of Recent GCC Activities: next assembly 5-27-2021

Here are highlights of GCC activities since our January Delegate Assembly. Due to the number of issue team meetings and religious holiday observances occurring this month, there will be no March Delegate Assembly. The next Delegate Assembly will be Thursday, May 27th, 2021
In January we conducted three sessions of a key leaders retreat with 120 different leaders attending, and created real opportunities for leaders to be involved in GCC work during 2021.
* Retreat participants ratified our next steps for the Criminal Justice Team, which will now be leader-led instead of staff-led. The team will continue whatever Crisis Diversion Center works that needs to happen as well as initiate a series of house meetings with people directly impacted by the criminal justice system along with research actions to guide the team’s future work.
* Our Color of Health Initiative continues to create access for our member organizations to address the COVID-19 pandemic. We are pushing to get resources for the 13 congregations that have agreed to become pop-up vaccination sites on Cleveland’s East Side.
* Our Battle for Democracy Team is creating a non-partisan neighborhood captains model that will identify key Cleveland neighborhoods with GCC member and partner institutions to identify neighborhood leaders interested in leading change. These neighborhoods will likely include Central, Fairfax, Glenville, Lee-Harvard and Slavic Village.
* GCC helped lead two training sessions on Power to 50 leaders in the Great Lakes region.
* Our GCC Community Purchasing Alliance has formed a steering committee that is looking at a business model and the principles that underlie a cooperative enterprise. In February, CPA signed waste hauling contracts with West Shore UU and the West Side Catholic Center and Legacy Waste and Recycling, GCC’s preferred vendor.
