Cuyahoga County is currently working on a plan to spend a half billion dollars to build a new County Jail at a currently undecided location. The Jail Coalition believes that the County could better invest its time, money and efforts into developing support structures and alternatives to incarceration that are proven alternatives to the brutality of jails, and that transforming the conditions that lead to most violence (and nonviolent but criminalized actions) and police interaction would make everyone safer. Our county should invest in true safety and prosperity for our communities for years to come, and scrap their current plan to build a larger jail that would warehouse disproportionately poor Black and Brown residents.
I hope you will join us in this campaign.
In solidarity,
Cuyahoga County Jail Coalition
