Operations Council Report October 2022

UUCC’s Buildings & Grounds Team (B&G) has worked through the summer and here is an update on various projects and changes.

UUCC’s Shaker building’s parking lot was repaired, resurfaced and re-striped in late August and early September, including additional disabled parking places where the recycling bins were previously.

New striping and labeling of electric car charging stations should make those spaces more visible. Also, working with the Finance Committee, an additional charger station was added and the old one was updated.

Recycling bins have been relocated to the back, southwest corner of the parking lot. We now have a new provider for the paper/cardboard bins (River Valley Paper). Other bins for Rust Belt Riders (food waste composting) and Repeat Glass recycling glass are in that same location.

We continue to be bedeviled by leaks in the skylight over the 2nd floor RE wing. Multiple roof companies have been unable to completely seal the leak and there is now a crack in the skylight itself. We are making arrangements to replace it and get a better seal around the new one. Our only other choice is to eliminate the skylight but we would lose significant natural light in that area.

After the skylight is truly fixed, we are ready to work on the new ceiling and floor tile for that 2nd floor wing. Materials are being finalized and labor will be scheduled. We know everyone will be happy once this is completed.
