Thanks to Dan Homans, Jane Montgomery, Steve Sanford, Daniel O’Keefe, and Debbie Wright for their work on the pollinator garden and orchard. Weeds and heavily clumped leaves are being removed to get ready for a layer of tilth soil. The tilth will enrich the soil, making it possible for the soil to sequester more carbon, so in addition to supporting the pollinators we need for growing food, the healthier soil will help a teeny tiny bit to to draw down the carbon in our atmosphere that is causing climate change.
Thanks also to Lou Salza who spent several hours setting up the cisterns so that we can collect rainfall and use it to water the pollinator garden. Watering the orchard and Community Gardens is much easier now due to McKimm Funds and Debbie Wright’s work in setting up the installation of underground pipes that bring water to that section of the property and make the task of watering far easier than it was in the past. It is still a major challenge for septuagenarians to water the pollinator garden, dragging the long, heavy hoses from one end to the other, but there seems to be no alternative. We get strong by doing what we need to be strong for!
Neighbors continue to comment about how much they enjoy walking through our gardens. Hope you’re noticing the beautiful blooms coming up.
