UUCC Ministry For Earth is a FaCT Anchor Community

Ministry for Earth Committee is now a FaCT Anchor Community. FaCT stands for Faith Communities Together for a Sustainable Future. An Anchor Community is a group within a faith community which share FaCT’s interest in sustainable practices and policies that address climate change. We enter into a spirit cooperation with FaCT to:
· Promote sound environmental values and sustainable lifestyles
· Encourage and generate individual and faith community actions
· Provide education tools and opportunities
· Teach constituents to act as environmental watchdogs
· Influence policy and decision-making
· Foster collaborative partnerships

The term ‘anchor’ refers to a faith community which has an important presence in a community and is tied to a certain location and shares an interest in the environment. UUCC Ministry for Earth Supports FaCT and is now an Anchor Community. UUCC also supports FaCT through our Sunday Plate giving. UUCC donates to FaCT serval times a year. Other nearby congregations also support FaCT as Anchor Communities:
* West Shore FaCT, a church committee under the umbrella of the West Shore Unitarian/Universalist Church (UU), located in Westlake, OH,
* The Climate Conversations Committee at the Community of St. Peter located on East 71st Street in Cleveland
*The Social Justice Council at East Shore UU Church is Mentor, OH

Faith groups become Anchor Communities to empower the entire faith community to actively work in partnership with FaCT to protect the air, water and soil and work to mitigate and remediate climate change.

Members of the UUCC Ministry for Earth believe that communicating with other faith groups is an effective way of strengthening our efforts to deal with the climate crisis. A member of the Ministry for Earth (MFE) will attend monthly Anchor meeting via Zoom reporting back to MFE and the greater UUCC Congregation.

Benefits of Becoming an Anchor:
Educational Resources: FaCT Anchors will have access to a range of resources and support materials, such as: books, promotional flyers, newsletters, podcasts and videos.

Publicity: FaCT Anchors benefit from exposure through channels as FaCT Ohio’s website and monthly newsletter and e-blasts. FaCT Ohio already has an “established” presence in Ohio.

Marketing Materials: FaCT Anchors may use FaCT Ohio’s name and logo on signboards and other materials such as letterheads and brochures.

Networking and Capacity Building: FaCT can provide capacity building and networking opportunities for Anchors.

Events and Activities: Representatives of FaCT Anchors may attend (in-person or via ZOOM) FaCT training workshops free of charge. FaCT Anchors receive frequent email blasts notifying constituents of important environmental updates, events, discussions and other activities.

Newsletters: Constituents of each FaCT Anchor will receive a monthly digital copy of the FaCT newsletter and semi-monthly a hard copy of the FaCT newsletter.

Professional Advice and Support: FaCT has a great deal of shared experience in contributing to environmental policies and legislation and is able to assist in interpreting environmental legislation as well as refer FaCT Ohio Anchors to relevant contacts in our network, which may be able to offer further assistance.

History
FaCT was founded 12 years ago at East Shore UU Church in Mentor, OH. It is the oldest interfaith nonprofit organization in Ohio, whose sole purpose is to engage faith communities (originally in opposition to the harmful practices of the oil/gas industry in Ohio) and now includes the mitigation and remediation of climate change.
