“Yes, we’re going to break from our typical show norms in December,” show host David Kantor said. “Each of our December shows will have two special guests rather than the sole guest model we’ve used in the first months of the show.”
UUCC Zoom-In…LIVE!, the congregation’s infotainment show which focuses on members and staff of UUCC discussing their journeys and their involvement in UU, UUCC, and larger societal issues, airs on the second and fourth Mondays of each month. December shows will appear on the 14th and 28th of the month during the 8-9 PM hour (Eastern Time).
“Our first December show will feature Laurie Albright and Mike Miller, the co-chairs of the Ministerial Search Task Force,” David noted. “We’ve timed their appearance to take place right after the Task Force completed its initial work and developed our congregational packet that will be viewed by potential ministerial candidates. There will already have been “official” meetings to discuss this material with the congregation; we figure to provide a less formal venue for discussing where we are now and what happens next.”
“We debated whether we should have a show during the holidays. In the end, we said that if CBS and CNN don’t “go dark” during the holidays, we won’t either,” David continued, tongue firmly in cheek. “But we wanted something different for our holiday show. So, we thought it would be fun to let our audience know some more about our co-hosts, Will and Jenna. When the idea surfaced, they loved it, so here we go.”
David noted that the two November shows – featuring Erika Brown and Carol Gay – had the largest viewership of all episodes to date.
“Our viewership size reflects how the show is gradually embedding itself into the UUCC community,” David observed. “Don’t get me wrong – Erika and Carol were both terrific guests with a lot to say and share. I mean, Erika’s discussion of growing up as a Black female in America was VERY powerful, poignant, and informative. AND: We are noting that every episode brings with it some folks who have not attended an episode previously.”
“We’re pleased that we’re able to do what we envisioned at the outset,” show co-creator and producer Carol Gay said. “We wanted to have a vehicle that would bring together members of our congregation in a meaningful way, and UUCC Zoom-In…LIVE! is one of the ways in which we’re able to successfully do this.”
“Guests willing to appear, congregants routinely attending, audience questions that are fun and interesting – we’re grateful for all of the ways in which our congregation has responded to and is supporting the show,” David said.
The pre-show begins 10-15 minutes before 8 with a three song music mix, then follows with David and co-host interviewing the special guest for about 25 minutes. After a short break, the audience asks questions of the guest for the remainder of the show. “The smart folks show up at around 12 minutes before 8 and stay a few minutes after the show ends to listen to the music,” David observed.
The UUCC community is provided with the Zoom link to the show the Sunday before each episode in the late afternoon/early evening. The sender of the link is “Zoom-In Live.”
