FaCT Distinguished Speaker, Dr. Randi Pokladnik

May 23 @ 3:00 pm

FaCT Distinguished Speaker Series presents Dr. Randi Pokladnik
“Will Resource-Hungry Data Centers Devour Ohio?”
May 23, 2026 3:00 P.M. Online Zoom

Communities across Ohio are voicing concerns about the rapid growth of data centers in their neighborhoods and rural areas. Residents
point to issues such as noise, heavy water use, farmland being turned into industrial sites, air pollution, new transmission lines, and possible increases in utility bills. A single data center can use up to 5 million gallons of water per day for cooling while operating 24/7.

Dr. Randi Pokladnik, a lifelong Ohio Valley resident, has degrees in Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, and Environmental Studies, and has worked as a research chemist and science educator. She now volunteers with several environmental groups, including Mid- Ohio Valley Climate Action, Save Ohio Parks, and FaCT. Her work focuses on climate change, Appalachian environmental issues, and the role forests play in reducing carbon emissions.
