GCC Leaders and supporters Calls must be made by January 22.
Recently, the Ohio Supreme Court ruled 4-3 to strike down gerrymandered legislative maps drawn for the Ohio House and Ohio Senate. The Ohio Redistricting Commission is now required to draw maps that comply with the Ohio Constitution and the will of the people of the State of Ohio.
A 2015 constitutional amendment passed by voters requires the Ohio Redistricting Commission to draw politically proportionate maps, based on results of the previous ten years of statewide federal elections.
GCC’s Battle for Democracy Team is asking everyone to call your House and Senate Representative and at least one member of the Ohio Redistricting Commission* (see below), urging them to push for fair legislative maps. Here is a sample script:
I am from the city of in_____ _ County. I am asking you to honor your office and draw fair maps that keep communities together and allow for fair representation for all Ohioans. Ohioans want districts that do not predetermine the outcome of one party over another.
There are only 10 days before the new maps are due – please make your calls today and everyday until the 10 days are up! Let us know you called. Send us an email at [email protected] or comment on our Facebook page.
Thank you for participating in this action to bring about Fair Districts!
