Will Resource-Hungry Data Centers Devour Ohio?
October 18 @ 9:00 am – 10:00 am
Speaker: Molly Bryden, Researcher for Climate & Sustainability at Policy Matters Ohio.
Interest in data centers and their impacts is growing day by day as the public becomes increasingly aware of the impact of these massive installations. It has been reported, for example, that a single bitcoin transaction and verification equals approximately 1449 KwH (kilowatt hours), which is equivalent to about 50 days of power usage for the average American household! Ohio has some 217 data centers, the fourth highest number among all 50 states. Many of these are hyperscale, enormous in size. Where do we go from here?
