Activities Leading up to GCC’s April 7 Action

At the recent Delegate Assembly our 84 attendees demonstrated lots of engagement and eagerness about our upcoming April 7th hybrid action. The action will focus on the upcoming election of the Cuyahoga County Executive and the Judge of the Court of Common Pleas, Juvenile Division — two contested seats with the power to impact the ongoing work of GCC ( Great Cleveland Congregation ) .

The April 7th action launches the 2022 edition of our Battle for Democracy’s long-term campaign of fighting voter suppression and eradicating voter depression. This is our moment to build an ongoing strategic relationship with the Office of the County Executive on key issues such as the Crisis Diversion Center, housing and development of communities throughout the County. The action will also support the work of our Criminal Justice Bind-over Team, which is pushing for changes to the current practice of binding over Cuyahoga County youth to adult incarceration.

In preparation for April 7th, we will have teach-ins on turnout progress for the action as well as on the politics of Cuyahoga County on March 15th and 29th at 7pm. All are welcome!

The Tuesday, March 15th, 7-8pm virtual teach-in will include a check-in on turnout numbers for the action as well as a topic related to the contested seats (county executive and juvenile court judge) that have the power to impact our ongoing work. Register here for the session:

The Thursday, March 24th, 7-8:30pm virtual teach-in will focus on juvenile bindovers and will be led by Leah Winsberg from the Children’s Law Center and previously a Cuyahoga County Public Defender, Juvenile, Division. Note this teach-in has been recently added to the calendar. Register here for the session:

The Tuesday, March 29, 7-9pm virtual teach-in will be the final run-up to the April 7 action and will include a check-in on turnout numbers for the action. Turnout for the action is imperative to show the candidates our strength and base throughout Cuyahoga County. Register here for the session:

All are encouraged to attend as many of these sessions as possible.

Turnout for the April 7th action is imperative to show the candidates our strength and base throughout Cuyahoga County. At last Thursday’s Delegate Assembly, 18 congregations pledged 308 participants for the April 7th action — a great start! There’s still more work to do, however, to overwhelm the candidates with a show of our turnout strength!

Reminders and registration links for the remaining two teach-ins and the April 7th action will be included in upcoming communications.
