Food for our Minds and Spirits: All Mistakes Are Opportunities

We all mess up. From time to time, we do something wrong, we don’t do something we were supposed to do. We flub. We pull a bone-headed move.

It’s a struggle to be a human, sometimes. And a big part of being a human is learning how to be okay with making mistakes and––maybe even more important!––being okay with the mistakes that other people make. And that takes practice.

Musicians have a lot to teach us about this kind of practice, and I was so pleased to find this example of a mistake being made in the wild. While playing as a group, a mistake turns into an opportunity to make more music, to include a voice that took a misstep.

Fortunately for those of us with only scant experience in a jazz performance group, the video includes annotations of what’s going on. I’d recommend watching it a few times to fully hear the dynamics at play.

May we all get good at making mistakes, and even better at incorporating the mistakes of others!

Sometimes it is hard to tap into our spiritual selves or find time to nurture our creativity and intellectual curiosity. Here is a section that reflects on some nourishing materials from around the web and related media channels in order to get us thinking, get us feeling, and get us reflecting on the lives we are living in this big world. **Some Adult/Mature Themes May Appear in Links and Other Attached Material**
