Big Things have Small Beginnings

The above is a conglomeration of historical and pre-historical data that links geology with sociology and then with race and politics. The story tells itself through these pictures. It is, in one sense, not particularly relevant for those of us who don’t spend time thinking about politics in Alabama. But, in another sense, this points to the monumental importance of forces beyond our control and often beyond our awareness in shaping the world we now inhabit. And if pre-historic human settlements patterning themselves because of Cretaceous geology isn’t evidence of how little in-control we are….
