There are those people out there who just seem to be filled with a goodness and a genuine, real love and care. People like Mr. Rogers or Steve Irwin or Mary Poppins. They are either fictional, or seem fictional, or appear to be almost an act. Then you meet some people like this in your own life––maybe it’s a beloved family member, maybe it’s a friend’s parent, someone you only passingly met. It’s a profound experience because it enlightens our sense of who was can ask ourselves to be.
One of the few really good things about social media is how is does open up our experiences of other people. If you are intentional and thoughtful about who you engage in social media, you can meet some extraordinary people. And I’ve met just such a person recently, on TikTok — a librarian named Mychal. Here’s one of his videos:
He has loads of videos that run the gamut of stories about his time to explanations about resources from libraries. He is presenting a specific version of himself to represent his role as a very special kind of community resource, and in the meantime, we get an insight into the people whose life he is touching. You would not waste your time watching his videos for a half hour.
When bad things happen in the world, they often take the form of big events that are reported on and dwelt on in media. They dominate how we see the world. Good things that are happening in the world often arrive with no fanfare and even less coverage. But good is out there all the time, living itself out in and among people.
Sometimes it is hard to tap into our spiritual selves or find time to nurture our creativity and intellectual curiosity. Here is a section that reflects on some nourishing materials from around the web and related media channels in order to get us thinking, get us feeling, and get us reflecting on the lives we are living in this big world. **Some Adult/Mature Themes May Appear in Links and Other Attached Material**
