Food for our Minds and Spirits: Whimsy

Sometimes it is hard to tap into our spiritual selves or find time to nurture our intellectual curiosity. Here is a section that reflects on some nourishing materials from around the web and related media channels in order to get us thinking, get us feeling, and get us reflecting on the lives we are living in this big, beautiful world. **Some Adult/Mature Themes May Appear in Links and Other Attached Material**

Whimsy.

I’m not quite sure if I could define the term, but it has something to do with unseriousness and a purposelessness. Whatever “whimsy” is, it defines a real sense of play for the sake of play.

Of course, once you grow up, you aren’t really allowed to play anymore. So whimsy is hard to come by. Which is why the artwork of Tatsuya Tanaka is so precious––really in more than one sense. Tanaka makes miniature art that is inventive and perspective-shifting. Not unlike tilt-shifted film, he creates a world that looks like it is part of a children’s book or a Sesame Street short.

Simply put––they are delightful.
