Unitarian Universalism (UU) is a faith that inspires change: within ourselves, our communities, and our world. Unitarian Universalists believe that living our values—through kindness, justice, and service—is what makes a difference in the world.

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Cleveland, like many others, is guided by both longstanding and newly adopted principles and values. The Seven Principles, which have inspired generations of UUs, emphasize the inherent worth of every person, justice and compassion, and respect for our planet, among other core beliefs. In recent years, we also adopted the 8th Principle, committing ourselves to the work of building a more just and inclusive world by actively challenging oppression and racism.

In 2024, the Unitarian Universalist Association adopted a new framework, updating Article II of its bylaws to reflect our evolving UU Values. These values—interdependence, pluralism, justice, equity, transformation, and generosity—capture the essence of our shared commitment to a loving, equitable, and interconnected world..

What We Believe: A Non-Credal Faith

Unitarian Universalism is a non-credal faith, which means we do not require members to follow a single doctrine or profess a set of specific beliefs. Instead, UUs are encouraged to seek and discover their own spiritual paths while being part of a supportive and diverse community. Together, we share and explore different ideas, ask questions, and deepen our understanding, with a commitment to upholding our common values and principles.

Finding Inspiration in Many Sources

In our tradition, we do not rely on just one sacred text. Instead, we find wisdom in a wide array of sacred and secular sources, including the teachings of many religions, the insights of science, philosophy, and human experience, and the wonders of nature. This broad perspective allows each of us to draw inspiration from sources that resonate personally, while also learning from the experiences and beliefs of others.

Living Our Faith Every Day

Unitarian Universalists express their faith in practical, everyday ways. Through our worship, learning, and service, we strive to create a positive impact. We work within our communities, both locally and globally, to build a more peaceful, fair, and compassionate world. Our congregation comes together each week to connect, learn, and grow, and to put our values into action.

If you’re seeking a welcoming, open-minded community where you can explore your beliefs, honor a diversity of perspectives, and make a difference in the world, we invite you to join us.
