A group of white Christian evangelicals called Dominionists or Christian nationalists has expanded greatly from a few individuals more than 200 years ago. While they numbered 20% of Trump’s supporters in the 2016 Iowa caucus, today they exceed 50%. They hold that America was founded as a Christian nation and that their version of Christianity should determine our laws, media, education, economy, arts, entertainment and family. The New Apostolic Reformation is a growing subgroup. Its Appeal to Heaven flag has been flown at the office of House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and the home of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito.
