Speaker(s): Cassandra Burke Robertson, JD, MA, MPA, Professor of Law and Director, Center for Professional Ethics School of Law at Case Western University; Shih-Chun Steven Chien, JSD, Assistant Professor of Law, Cleveland State University School of Law

Confidence in the U.S. Supreme Court was already sinking before extravagant unreported gifts to Justice Clarence Thomas became public. It begs the question: Does the highest court in the country have the lowest ethical standards? The Court has been challenged to adhere to the policies of the Judicial Conference of the United States, required of lower courts. While referencing ethics as an “issue of concern inside the court”, Chief Justice John Roberts has not committed to implement a Code of Ethics. How does this situation affect our judicial system, and the concept of justice in the United States?
