Dead Poets Society (1989)  is a 1989 American coming-of-age film directed by Peter Weir and written by Tom Schulman. It stars Robin Williams and is set in 1959 at a fictional boarding school called Welton Academy, and focuses around a select group of boys, who over time take several pieces of advice from their English teacher, John Keating (Williams).

Unitarian Universalism draws inspiration from world religions, humanism, poets and philosophers, personal experience… and the big screen?  Join us in the Fellowship Hall as we gather to watch a variety of films, from Hollywood blockbusters to forgotten indie gems followed by a discussion of the question: Is this scripture?  We’ll explore whether the film offers meaning, moral guidance, prophetic truth, or espouses one of our guiding principles and find in what ways we personally connect (or don’t connect) with the people, places, and plots we’ve seen.
