Plastics Are in Us

March 5, 2023 @ 9:00 am 10:00 am

Speaker(s): Randi Pokladnik, PhD, retired Research Chemist, Environmental Activist; Emily Obringer, Conservation Program Coordinator, Sierra Club

In an attempt to move from carbon-based fuels, including Ohio-fracked natural gas and oil, the petrochemical industry is offering Ohioans an opportunity to utilize excess fracked material for manufacturing products such as plastic and resins on the Ohio River Valley.

In the manufacture of consumer plastic products, a by-product is PFAS or perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl. These unaltered substances will be released into the air, water and soil. Drinking water already contains trace amounts of PFAS substances. What is the impact on our health and quality of life?
