Politics, Policy & Economic Action

March 19, 2023 @ 9:00 am 10:00 am

Speaker: Mark Sniderman, PhD, CWRU Weatherhead School of Management, former Executive Vice President, Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland

The Federal Reserve raised interest rates 5 times in 2022. How much more will the Fed need to raise interest rates to control inflation, and where will that rate likely settle? What are the implications for long-term interest rates and mortgage costs? Will there be another housing bubble? If there is a recession in 2023, how long and deep would it be? Did the Fed wait too long to raise interest rates? How much power does the Fed have to lower inflation given public expectations of future inflation? Was too much money injected into the economy during Covid? What will be the price rise on food, energy, housing and health care, and when can we expect the stock, bond markets and economy to stabilize?
