We need 100 Neighborhood Captains to Support and Motivate voters

Greater Cleveland Congregations (GCC) are focusing their efforts on these 5 Cleveland communities where voter turnout and engagement has been low: Central, Fairfax, Lee-Harvard, Mount Pleasant and Slavic Village.

Neighborhood Captains are leaders who will be checking in on residents during these difficult times AND keeping them informed about the upcoming Cleveland Mayoral election and how to vote. The way it works is you will be given a packet with up to 50 voters in one of our five targeted neighborhoods, their contact information, and the tools you will need to reach out to them five times before the General election. Not only will you be connecting about the election–but it’s also a way to build relationships to turn out the vote!

Captains can be from Cleveland or surrounding suburban areas committed to helping turn out Cleveland voters from our targeted neighborhoods. By recruiting 100 captains who build relationships with up to 50 residents to act on their voting plans, we can potentially turnout 5,000 voters!!!

GCC is also gearing up for our October 7th action! This action will lift up issues to the mayoral candidates we heard from our canvassing and conversations May-September from Cleveland residents. We will also seek action on our Criminal Justice and Mental Health work. Consistent contact with residents strengthens our campaign and connects us to resident leaders throughout our neighborhoods.

We’ll be holding our next Neighborhood Captain training session and Cleveland Primary results on  Saturday, September 18th at 10am. We will also have weekly check-ins and script reviews to ensure you are supported in this role. Lastly, a virtual happy hour to socialize a bit and troubleshoot (date TBD)!
