We received a phone call and a letter of gratitude from the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland for your contribution of $634 in November 2020.
Last year the Legal Aid Society helped Sasha, a fiercely independent single mother raising two young children on her own, a 10-year-old son and a 2-year-old daughter. Her daughter is mostly deaf.
Before COVID hit, Sasha was working in customer service. She lost her job during the pandemic and had difficulty finding a new one. She was receiving unemployment compensation, but when that support ended, Sasha’s ability to pay rent and bills really became a struggle. Sasha went on a payment plan with her landlord, but it wasn’t enough — she still received an eviction notice. She was scared that she and her children would be homeless. She saw a brochure about Legal Aid and decided to call.
With help from her Legal Aid attorney, Sasha was able to win her legal battle and develop a better relationship with her landlord. With Legal Aid’s help, Sasha applied for and received COVID rent assistance to pay her back rent plus three months of future rent — which enabled her the stability to keep searching for a new job. Thanks to this newfound stability, Sasha was able to secure a new work-from-home job as a customer support specialist. Her son is now thriving in school and her daughter is scheduled to receive a cochlear implant soon.
Sasha’s story is just one example of the lives you change by your generosity each Sunday.
