Zoom-In Live! February 8: Dawn Arrington and February 22: Nancy King Smith

UUCC Zoom-In…LIVE! Announces February Guests
UUCC Activists Dawn Arrington and Nancy King Smith
to Appear in February

Two UUCC activists – both in the community and in our congregation, highlight the UUCC Zoom-In…LIVE! agenda for February. Dawn Arrington will be featured on the February 8 episode, and Nancy King Smith will be the special guest on the February 22 show. UUCC Zoom-In…LIVE airs 8-9 pm eastern time on both dates.

“People know Dawn Arrington as an outgoing and outspoken member of our congregation and our community,” David Kantor, host of the show, observed. “She’s a woman of passion and commitment to justice, which is evident in what she says and what she does. Even with a demanding family and work life and all she does in the community, she makes the time for involvement in major congregational initiatives – the Reunification Task Force and the Strategic Planning Task Force in the past, and the Ministerial Search Task Force now. We know she’ll have a lot to share about her journey as an African-American who is also a UU, about our congregation, and about issues of justice in the larger community.”

“Is there anybody in our congregation who doesn’t know who Nancy King Smith is?” David asked rhetorically when commenting on the show’s second February guest. “Nancy is a true icon of our congregation, and she asked me if people would really be interested in what she has to say,” David said with a chuckle. “She was heavily involved in the predecessor First Unitarian Church, assuming a wide range of leadership roles – including being Board President – and justice roles, including being one of the prime catalysts for the establishment of our Ministry for Earth. Since reunification, she’s served on the Board and assumed a major leadership for our Beloved Conversations initiative. She has a perspective that is unmatched regarding the evolution of our congregation and our role in the community.”

The pre-show begins 10-15 minutes before 8 with a three song music mix, then follows with David and co-host interviewing the special guest for about 25 minutes. After a short break, the audience asks questions of the guest for the remainder of the show. “The smart folks show up at around 12 minutes before 8 and stay a few minutes after the show ends to listen to the music,” David observed.

The UUCC community is provided with the Zoom link to the show the Sunday before each episode in the late afternoon/early evening. The sender of the link is “Zoom In Live.”
