Chalica is a season at UUCC that brings together our spiritual practice, lifelong learning, and commitment to justice. Through a shared ritual of candle lighting, Chalica connects our congregation with our households and families, inviting reflection on the values that guide Unitarian Universalism and shape our life together.

At UUCC we celebrate Chalica in January and February. As we wait for the returning light to lengthen we bring light to our lives with our meditation on the candlelight and a focus on one shared value each week with the final week bringing it all together with a focus on the Liberating Love that is at the center of our values.

At home, individuals and families are invited to set aside time to light a candle, reflect on that week’s value, and consider how it shows up in everyday life. Share your thoughts with others in your family and community throughout the week. When we gather for worship, we reflect together on how our UUCC community lives these values—intentionally, imperfectly, and in relationship with one another.

We will explore one of our shared UU Values each week. Together, they offer a living framework that guides our spiritual growth, our care for one another, and our work for justice in the wider world.

You are invited to read the Theological Reflection On UU Shared Values by the Rev. Dr. Sheri Prud’homme that reflect on the interplay of Unitarian Universalism’s theological heritage and the shared values that were adopted in the revision of Article II in 2024. Rev. Prud’homme offers some pieces, like those of a patchwork quilt, that don’t aim to be an end unto themselves but a piece of your connections and understanding. May these reflections inspire engagement with our theological heritage and our contemporary expressions of Unitarian Universalism.
