Bonus Track: What will you Nourish?

In Sunday’s Water Ceremony, we invited you to identify something you’re committed to nourishing in the year ahead. For a lot of people, the answer may have come easily. For some, it may have taken a little bit of reflection. You may still be reflecting on the question and letting possibilities percolate in your mind for a bit.

There isn’t a deadline on naming something you are committed to nourishing. There is a deadline to include it in our water-drop word cloud we hope to post in the Fellowship Hall as a touchstone for our community’s commitments.

On Sunday, we included a QR Code people could use to share what they commit to nourishing, either in their personal lives or in our community. Some of the most frequent responses were things like family, health, self-love, and creativity. Some people indicated very specific and personal commitments. I personally believe that all of these areas we faithfully nourish are interconnected and influence everything toward greater wholeness and well-being.

Some people might not have had a chance to include their response, though. Either we find the idea of scanning a QR Code to be particularly challenging, or we needed a bit of time to discern what we might name. Whatever the case, you have a couple of bonus days to have your response included.

The word cloud entries will be open until the end of the day on Saturday, September 14. You can go to https://slido.com and enter the code 4561060 to participate. We hope to have the water droplet word cloud on display throughout the year in Fellowship Hall, and it would be wonderful to include your nourishment commitment in the image.

Why would we want to publicly display everyone’s commitment to nourish something, especially if there’s no name alongside the word? If we included people’s names, at least we could imagine holding one another accountable and checking in.

“How is it going with your commitment to nourish more connection through music?”

“Oh! You remembered that!? I really could be more intentional about it than I have been.”

“Well, what steps are you thinking you’ll take this week toward that commitment?”

That kind of conversation isn’t possible if we see commitments detached from names. You could very easily share what you’ll mindfully nourish with a few trusted friends if you’d appreciate a bit of accountability. Our hope, though, is that we’ll see the vast array of places where we are collectively nourishing our lives and our community—the diversity of what matters deeply to one another. We might see that we don’t have to nourish everything, because there are other people committed to nourishing things too.

We might see our own commitment on a random Sunday at Coffee Hour and be gently reminded that we named something as important to us. And that gentle reminder might invite some celebration at the nourishing we’ve done, or it might be just the spark we need to renew that commitment and take meaningful action.

So, what are you committed to nourishing in the year ahead? If you haven’t already told us, you can do so through Saturday at https://slido.com with the code 4561060.
