This fourth week of Chalica, we lift up our value of Equity, which affirms that every person is inherently worthy and has the right to flourish with dignity, love, and compassion. This reflects our legacy of affirming human worthiness and a commitment to equitable and compassionate relationships. Because we value equity, we covenant to use our time, wisdom, attention, and money to build and sustain fully accessible and inclusive communities.
Chalice Lighting
We light this chalice to celebrate the inherent worth and dignity of every person; To reaffirm the historic pledge of liberal religion to seek that justice which transcends mere legality and moves toward the resolution of true equality; And to share that love which is ultimately beyond even our cherished reason, that love which unites us.
Poetry
from Charles Thomas
we are the fundamantalists
not those who claim the name
but those of us
who believe in human rights
for everyone
who believe in fundamentals
of fairness
of equality
of equity
who believe in recognizing injustices
of past of present
and being accountable
for ending them
who believe in caring
for nature
who believe in restoring
in maintaining
the environment
who believe in working toward peace
toward freedom
for all
yes we are the fundamentalists
Mindfulness and Action
- Is there a local justice-seeking organization to which I can offer time or talents?
- How does my silence perpetuate injustice? Can I speak up in ways that help others know I care?
- Are there people near me to whom a simple kindness would make a world of difference?
- How can I learn or participate in ways that promote justice and equity in my community?
