Unitarian Universalists light a flaming chalice to symbolically create sacred space. The element of fire represents passion and energy, perhaps even transformation and regeneration, inviting dynamic and active change. Fire can warm us and light our path, and yet uncontrolled fire energy can destroy things we care about. How can we embrace the fire of our being and temper it with our deepest life-affirming values?
