Delight
Our theme for the month of June is Delight. That being said, there are some unusual things happening this month!
This Sunday is our Flower Ceremony, and it also happens to be the 100-year anniversary of the very first Flower Celebration, created by Norbert Čapek. Our ceremony will be a little different from that first one, but hopefully just as meaningful.
So, on June 4, we’ll gather on the East Lawn if the weather remains friendly. You’re invited to bring your own comfy chair and a flower (or more). There will be extra chairs and flowers if you forget.
Our Annual Meeting will immediately follow the Flower Ceremony, where we’ll affirm some new board members, potentially adopt a new congregational covenant, and vote on some changes to our Congregation’s bylaws.
Later this month, on June 25, we’ll join thousands of other Unitarian Universalists for worship at General Assembly in Pittsburgh. If you still need to make reservations for the UUCC charter bus, you can do so here: https://forms.gle/hpkeaH72KyjCC6r38
That same form will also let you register for lunch together with your UUCC friends in Pittsburgh before we return home.
And if you’ve already registered, you can pay for the bus and lunch by check, or through Cashapp (our handle is $UUCC44122).
If you’re planning to participate in worship virtually on June 25, the service will be livestreamed from uua.org and on the UUA YouTube channel.
In between these two big Sundays, we’ll Delight in Leadership on June 11, taking some time to bless our congregational leaders. This includes our new and current Board members, our GA Delegates, and all of the amazing chairs and co-chairs of our various committees and ministry teams.
Then, on June 18, we’ll Delight in the Fringes. Our faith tradition has historically been on the cutting edge of theology and justice. What does that mean for us now? And how does our identity as a faith community allow us to express radical hospitality for people on the margins in our society?
I hope you bring a heart open to delight into this month full of opportunities to deepen our relationships with one another and with our identity as Unitarian Universalists.
